Breakage representation in the discrete element method (DEM) is important to accurately describe fragmentation and degradation of particles when simulating bulk materials handling and size reduction operations.
Rocky DEM is able to describe particle breakage of convex polyhedral particles with both mass and volume conservation based upon the stressing energy involved in the collisions. This document details the newly implemented Tavares Breakage Model, the guidelines for its calibration and the best practices when adopting the model to simulate breakage in Rocky DEM.
